Global Warming: A wake-up call!

Humble Appeal

The glaciers are melting; the temperature near surface earth and oceans is rising, the level of carbon-di-oxide is increasing, aberrant climatic changes seem to be attacking our planet!....

Have we ever tried to remove few minutes from our "busy" lives and pondered as to what has given birth to such an unrelenting situation on our Mother Earth.

In this time of danger are we doing our bit to fight this predicament? The answer will be No... But we must all bare in mind that the time to question and debate over global warming is over. we have surpassed the phase of finding remedial measures to stop this unexpected climatic changes too!. It is the time when we have to be prepared to fight this situation.

We are aware as to what is causing this global warming i.e. the greenhouse effect, deforestation, industrialization, etc. There are several measures that can help us fight this and reduce it to a striking rate.

Here are some measures that you can take to help reduce global warming:

1) Reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Buying products with minimal packaging will help to reduce waste. whenever possible, recycle paper, plastic newspaper, glass and aluminum cans. If there isn't a recycling program at your workplace, school, or in your community, demand one. By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

2) Adding insulation to your walls and attic, and installing weather stripping or screens around doors and windows lower your heating costs more than 25 percent, by reducing the amount of energy you need to heat and cool your home.Regular light bulbs should be replaced with compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs which saves a lot of energy.

3) Less driving means lesser amount carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

4) Buy energy efficient products like cars that offer good gas mileage, energy efficient home appliances. Avoid packages with molded plastic. reducing your household garbage by a few percent can save a tremendous amount of carbon dioxide emission.

5) Use less and minimum water. Turn off the tap when not in use especially while brushing, rinsing, washing your car and shampooing your dog. Avoid using showers as they waste tonnes of water.

6) Save electricity and reduce global warming. Turn off the stereo, television, computers when not in use. Switch off the fan and lights when not in use. Try using minimal electricity.

7) Plant a tree if you have the means. During photosynthesis plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen.

8) Encourage and educate others to conserve energy. Carry out programs and policies with friends, family and co-workers to create awareness.

These simple measures will help you save energy and maintain your monthly budget. And using less energy means less dependency on the fossil fuels that cause the greenhouse effect causing global warming.
